As Salvatore Miglino headed to his mother-in-law’s Tamarac home Wednesday to pick up his 3-year-old son, he expected a confrontation. Before Miglino exited his car, he hit the record button on his iPhone.
The recording became chilling evidence of a violent, sudden attack that put Miglino in the hospital and his mother-in-law behind bars.
Shortly after 5 p.m., Miglino, 39, of Boca Raton, pulled up to the home of his estranged parents-in-law to pick up his son. Per a court order, he has custody of the child every Wednesday night.
His mother-in-law, Cheryl Hepner, 66, met him outside with the boy’s pillow and bag. Hepner told Miglino that his father-in-law wanted to speak with him inside. Miglino refused to go into the house and asked for the pillow and bag.
Hepner pulled a handgun from behind the pillow and fired three shots at her son-in-law. Wounded in his ribcage and shoulder, Miglino landed on top of Hepner in the front yard.
On the recording, Miglino is heard screaming, “I can’t believe you did that. I can’t believe you shot me.” Hepner uses profanity and repeatedly tells him to get off her.
When Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, Hepner told them that Miglino tried to shoot her but she knocked the gun out of his hand, picked it up and shot him instead.
Tamarac Fire Rescue transported Miglino to Broward General Hospital, where he was treated and released. Hepner was taken into custody Thursday night and charged with attempted first-degree murder. She is being held in BSO’s Main Jail pending an appearance before a magistrate.
Court records indicate that Miglino and his wife Vicky married five years ago. A number of domestic violence and family court cases are pending at this time.
