South Florida’s largest public safety expo is scheduled for Saturday, November 5th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Seminole Paradise Hard Rock in Hollywood.
State, federal and local law enforcement agencies have banded together to feature crime prevention vehicles, safety demonstrations, educational displays, children’s activities, child fingerprinting and informative meet-and-greet activities for all ages.
The event is hosted by Crime Stoppers of Broward County and the Seminole Paradise Hard Rock Hotel.
At 1:30 p.m., the Broward Sheriff’s Office will host “Coffee with the Sheriff,” during which the public may participate in a question and answer session with Sheriff Al Lamberti. BSO will also showcase several specialized vehicles including a Broward Sheriff’s Office Smart Car, Mobile Booking Unit, Mobile Command Unit, Mobile Crime Lab, a bomb and arson vehicle with a robot, a marked Challenger and a helicopter.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue will roll out the “You Paint Truck,” a vehicle that children can paint and decorate. McGruff the Crime Dog as well as BSFR and BSO mascots Sparky and Deputy Quiggley will be available for photos.
Federal Air Marshals, the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and the Sunrise, Miramar, Miami and Miami-Dade police departments will also participate.
The Seminole Police Department will be on hand with Broward Crime Stoppers to provide free child fingerprinting and photos, present the Sky Watch Helicopter and receive tips from interactive crime prevention displays.
Salsa singer Melina Almodovar will perform during opening ceremonies and later sign autographs for the community and public service professionals.
Alex Martinez, immediate past president of the Latino Officers Association of Florida (LOA-FLA), will also be honored for his public service.
Additionally, families can enjoy a bounce house and cool down with a snow-cone machine and cotton candy courtesy of the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
“We encourage the public to attend the largest ever Public Safety Expo in Florida,” stated Commander Michael Calderin of the Broward Sheriff’s Office. “The expo provides a great opportunity to meet and talk to those serving in the Police, Fire, Detention, and Emergency Management departments at all levels of law enforcement.”
