Mere days before his release from a 366 day prison sentence for Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting an Officer with Violence, Kevin Lavon Pratt has been charged with three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Pratt, 33, has been charged with the August 17, 2009 slayings of Faith Bisasor, 49, her son Davion Bishop, 15 and family friend Nekitta Hamilton, also 15.
At a news conference Thursday, police said DNA from duct tape used on the victims linked Pratt to the murders.
According to the victims and police records, Pratt entered the home at 9581 Encino Street in Miramar completely at random and proceeded to shoot people while they were preparing for a birthday party.
Pratt was homeless at the time and got away with $80. He has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1994 for such offenses as robbery, aggravated battery, fleeing and eluding and carrying a concealed firearm.
Hamilton’s mother was shot in the head during the robbery but survived and was able to telephone a friend for help. She attended Thursday’s news conference and was publicly identified for the first time as Camille Hamilton, 41.
“I feel good, but deep in here it still hurts to be around knowing that my only child…she’s gone and never going to come back, and my friend and her son,” stated Hamilton.
Camille Hamilton sustained severe facial injuries during the robbery and was left partially deaf and partially blind.
According to authorities, robbery was the motive for the crime and the victims were chosen randomly.
