Tropical Acres Restaurant Engulfed by Fire

Established in 1949, the Tropical Acres Steakhouse is closed as Broward Sheriff’s Office fire crews reported a fully engulfed blaze shortly after 4 o’clock Tuesday morning.

Dispatched to the landmark restaurant located at 2500 Griffin Road, Dania Beach, the business was closed at the time and no injuries were reported.  As a precaution, some area homes were evacuated.

Officials report that Griffin Road was closed in both directions from 23rd to 29th Avenue as a result of the blaze and fire crews at the scene.

“The fire was contained in the northwest section of the restaurant,” stated Neal de Jesus, BSO Fire Chief and Executive Director, who personally responded to the fire.  “Contrary to initial news reports, it appears that Tropical Acres will be able to rebuild.”

Barely 48 hours after a suspicious fire at Deerfield Beach watering hole Crabby Jack’s, Broward County has lost another popular eatery.  In this fire, more than 50 firefighters from three area agencies fought the flames for about an hour.

Crabby Jack’s had recently been on the losing end of an eviction action in the Broward County Court and was facing eminent removal.

No such legal action appears pending against Tropical Acres.

“You have to be kidding me,” said Steve Kane, host of the popular Steve Kane Show on AM 1470 WWNN.  “Tropical Acres is my personal favorite and has been for a number of years.”
