Cody’s Angels, a 501.c3 charity founded by BSO Motor Deputy John Meiers, is hosting a golf tournament on Saturday, September 17th at Boca Lago Country Club inBoca Raton,Florida.
“We’re thrilled to be able to help our fellow motor deputy, John Meiers and his family, as they assist their 16 year old son, Cody on a medical journey of intense treatment over the next year, battling Ewing’s Sarcoma,” states Sergeant Lloyd McElhaney of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Motor Unit.
The Golf Committee is headed by BSO Lieutenant Larry Akers and BSO Motor Sergeant Lloyd McElhaney and Sergeant Ian Doriot. Assistance will be garnered from all fellow BSO Motor Deputies.
The mission statement of Cody’s Angels is to help Cody Meiers and his family by addressing a harsh reality with a humanitarian reality. The harsh reality is the fact that, even the best medical insurance doesn’t prepare you for this and this family needs assistance.
The humanitarian reality is that we live in a nation and world where people rally for those struck with such challenges. Cody’s Angels seeks to provide a place where people can get involved and help and to seek awareness.
Cody Meiers is a 16 year old, athletic, motivated, loving, incredible young man full of potential. He plays rec-league basketball and was hoping to try out for his high school team this year. Now going into 11th, he wants to take AP European History and AP Psychology.
Ewings Sarcoma is a malignant round-cell tumour. It is a rare disease in which cancer cells are found in the bone or in soft tissue. Ewing sarcoma occurs most frequently in male teenagers. Although usually classified as a bone tumour, the symptoms and rarity of the disease means it is almost always misdiagnosed as a muscular/skeletal injury. This was the case for Cody Meiers.
